Students can take either VCE Dance or VET Dance in years 10, 11 and 12.
Any Victorian secondary school student fascinated with the world of dance, and in particular who wishes to pursue dance as a career, is able to take dance as a VCE subject. VCE dance, or VCE VET dance, are available to all Victorian dance students.
They are, however, rarely available through traditional secondary schools, and therefore any student wishing to undertake either of these courses is usually required to do so through a private provider.
A private provider is an organisation or a person qualified and registered to teach a VCE subject privately, and who is able to put their students into exams.
The exam results (study score) of any student undertaking a VCE or VET subject through a private provider are counted towards a final year VCE ATAR score in exactly the same way as if those results were achieved through a regular secondary school.
In fact many students undertake the study of a range of different VCE subjects outside their chosen secondary school, particularly less mainstream subjects which are rarely offered in schools.
For 10 years Karen has been a registered provider of both VCE dance and VET dance, and has achieved outstanding results for her students throughout that time. Many of her students have gone on to pursue full-time careers in dance and dance teaching.
Length of the courses
VCE dance and VET dance are taught over a two-year period, and students can begin their studies in either year 10 or year 11. Students who commence VCE dance and Vet dance in year 10 can complete their VCE qualification in the subject in year 11, thereby giving themselves the opportunity to prequalify one VCE subject before year 12, allowing them extra opportunities to pursue other VCE subjects in year 12.
There are no formal pre-requisites to undertaking either of these courses however it is recommended that students have at least 3 or 4 years formal dance training before doing so.
Karen teaches in a variety of locations, and teaches students from Melbourne right through to East Gippsland. For full details of her teaching locations click here.
Many of Karen’s VCE and VET students undertake technique classes at other venues, for example private ballet studios. These students are encouraged to continue those classes, these will also be of benefit to the student in their VCE dance study.
If you’re interested in undertaking either course please contact Karen to discuss your personal requirements and to book your class.
